Visit Caithness this autumn
As autumn descends upon Caithness, there are plenty of wonderful things for our guests to see and do in the local area. From the breathtaking colourful landscapes to the wonders of the night sky.
Explore
As the nights get darker in autumn, the opportunities for stargazing and aurora-watching increase. Head up to Castlehill Heritage Centre, a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site, after nightfall on a clear night, and enjoy spectacular stargazing. On certain nights, the magic of the Northern Lights graces the night skies with a mesmerising display of colours. This ethereal dance of green, violet, and crimson hues paints a celestial masterpiece overhead. It offers a breathtaking spectacle that captures the essence of the season.
During the daytime, the Caithness Animal Farm Park beckons visitors with its charming menagerie of furry and feathered friends. This provides an opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy the autumnal beauty of the region. In addition to its diverse collection of animals, the park proudly boasts a special and enchanting resident in the run up to the holiday season: reindeer.
Cosy up
After a night of stargazing, there’s no better way to warm up and reflect on the wonders of the cosmos than by cosying up in front of a crackling fire in our library. With a steaming cup of tea or coffee in hand, this becomes a haven of comfort and tranquillity. It’s the perfect setting for quiet contemplation.
