At the Ulbster Arms Hotel and Lodges, we are committed to sustainable practices to reduce our environmental impact. Our aim is to provide a comfortable home-from-home experience for our guests, whilst promoting sustainability for a greener future.

A local-first approach

Our kitchen operates on a field-to-fork ethos and we source as much produce from Caithness and the wider Highland region as possible. This reduces food miles and provides our guests with the highest quality seasonal produce available.

Sustainable heating and energy

Our hotel working practices and operations have been developed with sustainability in mind. We have a biomass heating system, which uses wood pellets produced in the Highlands from sustainable timber sources. This alternative to fossil fuels provides all the warmth and hot water we need, while significantly reducing our carbon emissions. We’ve also incorporated eco-friendly and energy-saving practices into our laundry and housekeeping policies.

Reduce, reuse and recycle

We strive to reduce waste, reuse resources and recycle as much as we can, across all areas of the business. This includes the use of compostable and biodegradable packaging, and the recycling of cardboard, plastics, glass and metals.

Electric vehicle charging

We encourage our guests to travel sustainably, offering EV charging facilities for guest use.
